I survived the physical abuse inflicted by school teachers when I was a small child despite being permanently injured. In 1993, the 1979 Oldsmobile that I had spent four years customizing and restoring with my own two hands was completely destroyed due to what an investigation later determined was vehicle tampering that allowed the front wheel to come completely off while I was drag-racing. The car slid an over 400 feet before initial impact, then flipped and rolled multiple times before finally landing on and crushing the roof after which it slid another 74 feet, but yet I climbed out of a small opening on my own without so much as a scratch. That same year, I survived a brutal stabbing inflicted during a scuffle with two attackers who came at me as I was attempting to aid a lady in distress. In 1999, I was fired from a construction firm in the winter for being “too honest” – I was hired less than 48 hours by another firm for the same reason. In 2000, I successfully intervened in a suicide attempt just moments after that same person had attempted to slash my throat and was instrumental in getting that person the help they needed. Now in 2007, my family was facing the possibility of losing our home, but yet I fought and found a way to save it and ensure that my family would always have a home to go home to. One way or another, I endure and overcome. Although I may be small in size at under 150 pounds, have never raised my hand out of anger, and never had the opportunity to go to college, it is has always been in my nature to fight for life, for what I feel is right, and for what I need for the survival of my family and to be successful in my life. I've been a construction inspector for the past seventeen years, just like my father before me and his father before him.
